Our History

In February 2023, the Department of Seniors, Disability Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships (DSDSATSIP) held a community consultation meeting in Townsville to discuss the Local Thriving Communities (LTC) reform.

Department of Seniors, Disability Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships stated at the community consultation meeting that the Queensland Government is committed to working with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to establish greater decision-making authority in service delivery and economic development through the reform.

Giving First Nations Communities A Voice

Community members who attended the Townsville community consultation meeting had a consensus to participate in the design of the LTC reform for Townsville.

Fourteen community members volunteered to become the Townsville First Nations Community Council Working Group and agreed to undertake the following responsibilities:

• Develop a draft Terms of Reference for the Council for further community consultation.

• Develop a draft Selection Process for the membership of the Council for further community consultation.
